Flood watch: Soaking rain anticipated in a single day into Thursday
VERY, VERY WET OVERNIGHT. LET’S GET TO KEVIN RIGHT NOW. HEY, I THINK THE FLOODING CONCERN IS KIND OF GOING BY THE WAYSIDE A LITTLE BIT, BUT IT’S STILL GOING TO BE A SOAKING. YEAH, WE’RE STILL ANTICIPATING A SOAKING RAIN OVERNIGHT, BUT I’LL EXPLAIN WHY. I HAVE A LITTLE LESS CONFIDENCE. AND I THINK THAT FLOODING NOT AS MUCH AN ISSUE OVERNIGHT, BUT STILL YET IT’S GOING TO BE A PRETTY GOOD RAIN FOR A GOOD CHUNK OF THE AREA. SO RADAR NOW REALLY GETTING BUSY AGAIN AFTER A LITTLE BIT OF A LULL DURING THE EARLY PART OF THE EVENING HOURS. SO THINGS ARE KIND OF BASICALLY PLAYING OUT IN TERMS OF THE TIMING AS ANTICIPATED, SOME OF THE HEAVIER AREAS OF RAIN HAVE SHIFTED A LITTLE BIT FROM WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT, BUT THAT SAID, HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING AS WE SPEAK. DOWNPOURS FROM OWEN COUNTY ACROSS GRANT INTO PENDLETON COUNTIES THERE, RIGHT ON OVER INTO BRACKEN, MASON ROBERTSON COUNTIES. WOW, LOOK AT THAT. HEAVY RAIN, RAIN. WE’LL ZOOM IN ON THAT IN JUST A MOMENT. BUT RIGHT NOW, PRETTY DECENT SOAKING RAINS MOVING UP TOWARDS THE 71, 75 SPLIT. YOU CAN SEE IT OVERSPREAD THE CRITTENDON AREA, SOUTHERN PARTS OF BOONE AND ALSO KENTON COUNTIES. THIS WAS MOVING UP TOWARDS INDEPENDENCE. IT WILL SCOOT OVER TOWARDS ALEXANDRIA AND NEW RICHMOND HERE SHORTLY. THERE’S OTHER AREAS OF RAIN THAT HAVE DEVELOPED NEAR BATAVIA AND MILFORD HEADING UP TOWARDS GOSHEN. AND THEN THIS WILL PASS TO THE NORTH OF MOUNT ORB, EVENTUALLY ON UP INTO CLINTON COUNTY, WESTERN PARTS OF HIGHLAND COUNTY. BUT THEN LOOK AT THIS HEAVY BATCH OF RAIN THAT’S SCOOTING ACROSS THE OHIO RIVER RIGHT INTO FELICITY AS WE SPEAK RIGHT NOW. THIS WILL PASS JUST SOUTH OF BETHEL, ALSO OVER TOWARDS THE GEORGETOWN AREA OUT THERE ON 68 BETWEEN GEORGETOWN AND MOUNT HOREB. OTHER POCKETS OF HEAVY RAINFALL HERE. THIS IS WHAT I WANTED TO SHOW YOU, MOVING UP FROM MOUNT OLIVET IN THE DIRECTION OF MAYSVILLE. THIS WILL EVENTUALLY CROSS THE RIVER IN TOWARDS MANCHESTER AND WEST UNION. SO IF YOU’RE FROM RIPLEY TO MANCHESTER TO WEST UNION, GET SET ON SOME HEAVY RAIN SCOOTING INTO YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS HERE SHORTLY. AND THEN BASICALLY FROM LAWRENCEBURG OUT TOWARDS FOR SALES, YOU CAN SEE THE AREA OF RAIN LINING UP AND INCREASING IN INTENSITY. SO THROUGHOUT THE EVENING HOURS, A LOT OF THE HEAVIEST RAIN MOVE NORTH OF I-70. SO THIS IS JUST NOW BEGINNING TO FILL IN. AND AS A RESULT, I DO THINK THAT CUTS BACK A LITTLE BIT ON THE OVERALL RAINFALL AMOUNTS. AS YOU CAN SEE, IT’S STILL A SOAKING AROUND A HALF AN INCH, PROBABLY MOST OF US PICKING UP UNDER AN INCH. I WON’T RULE OUT IF A DOWNPOUR OR A FEW STORMS TRAINED OVER THE SAME AREAS. SOMEONE LOCALLY PICKS UP MORE THAN AN INCH. BUT I THINK WE’RE BACKING OFF SOME OF THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS AROUND THE AREA. SO THAT’S SOME GOOD NEWS. FUTURECAST SUGGESTS THAT AS WELL. YOU CAN SEE THE AREAS OF HEAVY RAIN, BUT IT’S NOT REALLY DOING THE BEST JOB. REMEMBER THAT BIG BATCH OF HEAVY RAIN DOWN HERE? SO IT’S JUST KIND OF GOT STUFF EVERYWHERE. BUT THE THEME IS A WET OVERNIGHT RAIN BEGINS TO TAPER OFF TOWARDS THE MORNING COMMUTE TOMORROW AND THEN WE’RE INTO SOME SUNSHINE BY THE TIME WE MAKE IT INTO THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND THEN MAYBE SOME CLOUDS AND FOG IN HERE FOR TOMORROW NIGHT. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE WEATHER SETUP AS WE SEE IT. THIS ANOMALOUS AUGUST PATTERN BRINGING IN A PRETTY STRONG STORM CENTER FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. REMEMBER THE STORM TRACK USUALLY IS MUCH FARTHER TO THE NORTH. BUT WITH THAT SAID, EVERY 36 HOURS WE FACE THE CHANCE FOR RAIN. IT LOOKS LIKE. SO 72 OUTSIDE HERE IN CINCINNATI. MOST OF US ARE BETWEEN 65 AND 70 HERE TONIGHT. AND WELL, AS YOU’LL SEE ON THE NIGHT PLANNER, WE’VE GOT DOWNPOURS THROUGH THE REST OF THE NIGHT. MAYBE A RUMBLE OF THUNDER THERE. THE RAIN SHOULD SHUT OFF, I THINK, EVEN EARLIER THAN 9 OR 10. AND THEN PROBABLY INTO SOME SUN BY EARLY AFTERNOON TOMORROW. SO IT’S AN OVERNIGHT SOAKING AS IT STAYS HUMID TOMORROW MORNING. SHOWERS THEN DRIER WITH SUNSHINE BY AFTERNOON, 81. HERE’S A LOOK AT YOUR DAY PLANNER. THE SECOND PART OF THE DAY ACTUALLY LOOKS PRETTY NICE FOR US. HERE’S YOUR SEVEN DAY FORECAST. SO WE GET A LITTLE LULL IN HERE TOMORROW NIGHT INTO FRIDAY. BUT THEN MIKE AND SHEREE WILL NEED TO WATCH FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY. AND I KEEP TALKING ABOUT TEMPERATURES. WELL, IT DOESN’T FEEL MUCH LIKE AUGUST WITH HIGHS ONLY IN THE LO
