MOGADISHU, Somalia – AU forces resumed Part Two of the troop drawdown, formally handing over the State Home and Parliament Home Ahead Working Bases (FOBs) in Mogadishu to the Somali Safety Forces (SSF).
The handover ceremony, attended by ATMIS Head and UN envoy Catriona Laing, UNSOS OiC Qurat-ul-Ain Sodazai, and senior FGS officers led by the Nationwide Safety Advisor Hussein Moalim, signifies a serious achievement within the ongoing #SomaliaSecurityTransition.
The 2 amenities, which had been underneath the command of ATMIS UPDF troops since 2007, liable for securing the presidential palace and parliament, symbolize the Federal Authorities’s (FGS) dedication and preparedness to imagine full safety obligations for Somalia.
The Sector 1 Commander signed the handover paperwork on behalf of ATMIS, with Qurat-ul-Ain Sodazai (UNSOS) and Hussein Moalim, (FGS) additionally representing their respective entities.
The drawdown is according to UNSC Decision 2710, which mandates the withdrawal of 3000 ATMIS troops by 31 December 2023.
