Mogadishu, tenth February 2024: The Individuals’s Meeting of the Federal Parliament of Somalia has ratified the Treaty of Accession to the East African Neighborhood that was signed between the Federal Republic of Somalia and the regional bloc on fifteenth December 2023. Parliament’s ratification of this treaty alerts the completion of Somalia’s membership course of, beating the 6-month deadline that had been issued for Somalia to deposit its devices of ratification with the Secretary Common of the EAC.
On November 24th, 2023, the EAC Summit in Arusha accepted the request of the Federal Republic of Somalia to hitch the regional bloc. Through the summit, the present Chairperson of the EAC and President of the Republic of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit hailed the transfer, terming it as a ‘‘main enhance, significantly in regional and continental commerce below the Africa Continental Free Commerce Space – AfCFTA.’’ For his half, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed optimism for stronger regional cooperation, a realization of the collective aspirations of East African residents, and a brand new period crammed with potentialities.
