MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The chief of northern Somalia’s SSC area Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Ali Firdhiye warned in opposition to plans by Ethiopia’s authorities to deploy troops to take over management of the city of Lasanod and threatened that regional forces won’t sit idly by if attacked, Caasimada On-line information web site reported on Thursday.
It comes amid escalating tensions over Ethiopia’s deal to lease a parcel of land alongside the Pink Sea from the breakaway area of Somaliland in January.
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud earlier accused Ethiopia of makes an attempt to annex elements of the nation’s north and warned that such a transfer would play into the palms of Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda’s strongest and wealthiest affiliate.
