MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Authorities in northeastern Somalia’s semi-autonomous area of Puntland on Sunday dismissed claims by Somalia’s federal authorities that 20 Al-Shabaab militants had been killed in an operation performed with the worldwide companions.
“The Ministry of Info of Puntland informs Puntland folks, Somalis on the whole and the worldwide neighborhood that experiences disseminated by the Federal Authorities’s Ministry of Info claiming that SNA troops carried out a navy operation in Al-Madow in Puntland are groundless,” Puntland authorities stated in an announcement.
“Puntland authorities is independently liable for its safety and Puntland forces are current in Al-Madow, subsequently, there are not any SNA troops which are current or function in Puntland.”
There was no unbiased affirmation of the assertions by either side, which come amid an escalating rift between the federal management and Puntland state.
Over the previous months, Somalia’s federal authorities claimed that tons of of militants had been killed in operations performed by the worldwide companions, although insurgents had been in a position to retake swathes of territory that they had misplaced throughout the preliminary part of a navy marketing campaign launched in 2022, which has faltered after a spate of assaults.
