MOGADISHU, April 27, 2025 – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre unveiled a big cupboard reshuffle on Sunday, appointing new leaders to key positions because the nation grapples with escalating political and safety challenges.
Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, a seasoned politician and former Minister of Commerce and Trade, was named second deputy prime minister, strengthening the federal government’s management staff.
Abdisalam Abdi Ali, beforehand deputy prime minister and Minister of Public Works, has been appointed Minister of International Affairs and Worldwide Cooperation, succeeding Ahmed Moallim Fiqi.
Fiqi, who previously led overseas affairs, will now function Minister of Protection. With a sturdy safety background, Fiqi beforehand headed Somalia’s Nationwide Intelligence and Safety Company (NISA) and held roles as Minister of Inside and Ambassador to Sudan.
The reshuffle comes as Somalia faces ongoing threats from Al-Shabaab insurgents and inside political tensions, with the federal government aiming to bolster its response to those urgent points.
