MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Heavy combating continued Monday for a fifth straight day between Somali authorities forces and Al-Shabaab militants close to the central city of Moqokori, officers and native sources mentioned.
The militant group, which seized the close by city of El Hareeri final week, is making an attempt to push deeper into jap Hiran area, prompting authorities troops and allied clan militias to launch repeated counterattacks. Nevertheless, not one of the offensives have succeeded in retaking misplaced floor.
Al-Shabaab is sending extra reinforcements day by day, native safety officers mentioned, including that they’re aiming to seize Moqokori and Mahas cities.
Ali Jayte, a senior militia coordinator, warned the frontlines might collapse until President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud intervenes. He accused leaders of the Hirshabelle regional state of obstructing army operations.
The insurgents have stepped up operations in central Somalia, regardless of airstrikes and resistance from authorities troops and allied militias.
