Police in Cox’s Bazar have arrested 5 members of a human trafficking gang and rescued 18 Rohingyas from a home in Teknaf.
A drive was carried out at one Amin Sharif’s home within the Naittongpara space of Ward No 1, Teknaf Municipality at round 11:30pm on Friday (26 Might), confirmed Teknaf police station OC Md Abdul Halim.
“Some 18 Rohingyas had been trafficked from Myanmar to Bangladesh for Tk8,000 in complete. They had been planning to go to Malaysia through the ocean.”Â
“However we, appearing on a tip-off, carried out this operation and arrested 5 human traffickers. They are going to be charged and despatched to courtroom quickly,” the OC informed The Enterprise Customary.Â
The arrestees are – Deen Islam, 25, Md Yunus, 26, Md Zahid, 30, Md Jamal, 38, and Amin Sharif’s spouse Hajera Khatun, 50.
Of these Rohingyas rescued, 5 are ladies, six males and 7 kids, who illegally entered Bangladesh utilizing River Naf. All of them are residents of Maungdaw in Rakhine, Myanmar.Â
“We may also file a case towards the rescued Rohingyas for unlawful trespassing. They may also be despatched to courtroom,” the OC added.
