MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s authorities has requested the United Nations to finish its political mission in Somalia often called (UNSOM) by the top of October 2024 as Mogadishu seeks elevated worldwide help forward of ATMIS exit.
Somali authorities say the choice was reached after “consideration of our strategic priorities”, including that “Somali Authorities will not request mandate renewal of decision 2705(2023).”
In a letter addressed to the UN Safety Council, Somali Overseas Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi stated: “We consider that it’s now applicable to transition to the subsequent part of our partnership. We’re assured that the achievements and classes realized through the mission’s presence will proceed to information our efforts in direction of sustaining peace and prosperity.”
